TOP SPRAY-TANNING TIPS
Plan ahead: Try to book your spray tan for 1 - 2 days before your
event. If your event is on Saturday, book your tan for Thursday if possible.
Exfoliate: Exfoliate every day for the week leading up to
your spray tan. Concentrate on areas such as knees, feet, elbows. Check the
ingredients list to make sure it does not have any AHA’s (Alpha Hydroxy Acids)
in it, which will fade your tan.
Shower: If possible, shower before
your spray tan. You need to
remove perfume, make-up, moisturiser, deodorant and sweat.
Body Wash: Is it pH balanced? Be particularly mindful of
body wash products that have moisturizers in them as this forms a barrier on
the skin and the tan may not work in certain areas, or become patchy and wear
off quicker.
ALWAYS USE A pH Balanced Body Wash prior to
a spray tan because your natural skin may have a high pH level.
Waxing and Shaving: It’s important to wax or shave at
least 12 hours prior to your spray tanning session. Beware that waxing or
shaving after your tan could cause patchiness.
Wear loose, dark clothing after your tan: Don't wear anything you don’t want fake
tan rubbing onto. Remember to take thongs — slipping strappy heels straight
back on will only cause patchiness on your feet. If you can go braless we would
suggest that as well.
What to wear tanning: You can wear a dark bikini or we can provide
a disposable G-Strings (if required). If you aren’t too shy, you can also go
naked (recommended) to avoid tanless patches. We also provide sticky feet so
that you don’t get tanning solution on the bottom of your feet.
Remember to remove your jewellery: Take off all of your jewelry and tie
your hair back when you get a spray tan to ensure nothing interferes with the
evenness of your tan.
Don’t sweat!: Avoid strenuous exercise after your spray tan. You'll
just sweat and your colour will either come off or become really patchy.
Wait 2 hours before washing: We use a very high quality tanning solution that
will develop in just 2 hours. You can leave the solution on for longer for a
deeper tan. Your tan will continue to develop over the next 24 hours. Keep your
water temperature at cool to warm and don't scrub your skin. Instead, gently
wash your body (without a loofah) and when drying, pat your skin rather than
rub it.
Shampoo and Conditioner: This is one of the most common
reasons your new spray tan may go an orange colour. The sulphates
and detergents in shampoo and conditioner can affect the spray tan and the
acidity of the skin. Products with Silicon in them can form barriers over the
skin, especially on the shoulders.
Anti-Dandruff Shampoo: Most Anti-Dandruff Shampoos have
a high pH Level which, will make the spray tan go orange. Make sure
you rinse thoroughly and try not to use an Anti-Dandruff shampoo 48 hours prior
to a spray tan.
Keep your body moisturised over the next
seven days. You can't
stop the natural cycle of shedding skin cells, but you can keep your skin
hydrated so that patchiness is reduced as your tan fades. Avoid excess physical exercise, sweating and swimming in chlorine pools, as these activities will make your spray tan fade faster.
Moisturizer: Be careful when
using a moisturizer with the active sunless ingredient (DHA) in it, because it
may turn your skin orange or make you take look muddy and streaky!
